I’m fortunate to have received a copy of the first draft of, Mommy Loves You Just the Same, the first children’s book from bestselling author and inspiration speaker, Teresa Gumap-as Dumadag. (She’s a breastfeeding advocate too!)
It’s a heartwarming story of how an expectant mother assured her son of her unchanging love — during her pregnancy and after she gave birth to her new baby. It also shows how this mother’s assuring love inspired and enabled the little boy to become a loving and responsible big brother.
The book is something that I would personally recommend to expectant parents and their children, as it hit close to home.
Cesca, my eldest, did not take the news of having a baby sister happily as you can see from my post above (circa 2012). She cried since she thought she’s no longer our princess once the baby’s out. We tried to assure her that this won’t be the case and that Mamay and Papi’s heart will just grow so 2 princesses can fit in it. It took awhile but she eventually learned to adjust and now loves her sister to bits.
The author, Teresa Gumap-as Dumadag – a mom of 3 boys herself, wrote the book while she was pregnant with her third child.
“I was looking for a book that I can use to repeatedly remind my two older children that I love them just the same even with the coming of their baby brother. Since I could not find one with the exact message, I composed a poem for them instead,” Gumap-as Dumadag shares. “I drew inspiration from the things that my children did during my third pregnancy and what my eldest did for me and his younger brother after my second pregnancy.”
I liked how relatable the book is, the author was able to use simple words that me and my kids would personally use when speaking to each other. The beautiful illustrations also truly captures the messages and lessons that the author wishes to impart.

When I learned that I was pregnant for the 2nd time, the first thing that came into my mind was how my daughter would react. She’s 6 years old then. I also bought a book similar to this.

This is perfect! Although my eldest didn’t have a problem when her brother came (she was more excited because she finally gets to have a playmate), I think this is something most parents will benefit from.

This is indeed perfect to read to little kids who are soon to be ates or kuyas. They all go through that phase of feeling unloved so it’s good to condition them way before the new baby arrives.

I do not know how my son will take it if he ever receive a news about an upcoming baby. But I think this book will be very helpful for us. Ates and Kuyas really tend to be jealous. I even experienced that as a kid. Good thing that this book will be out in the market soon. A great baby shower gift indeed. 🙂

This is surely a nice read. And nice to share with my friend, too, who is now entering her second trimester. She learned of her pregnancy and she doesnt know how to tell her panganay the news. Like me, she got pregnant after giving birth the first time 10years ago.

Though I have twins, this book also applies to them because I want them to know that I love them both so much just the same and don’t want any favoritism and all.

I’m an only child so I haven’t experienced this one but I can imagine the dilemma. A kid’s feelings are very sensitive and dealing with them, one needs to be really sensitive. I’m glad there are books like this that can help expectant moms. 🙂

I’m pregnant right now and also have a 5-year-old son who’s sometimes excited but sometimes not about us having another baby. Haha! This book would be perfect for us!

This seems like an interesting book. I always wondered how my son would react pag nalaman nyang may kapatid na sya. We’re planning to have a 2nd child pa naman 2 or 3 yrs from now.

My oldest is 15 and my youngest is 5 and thankfully my teens were happy when we decided to add to the family. This would be an excellent recommendation for kids who are a bit closer in age though. It would help them understand that love never runs out but instead overflows.

This book is perfect for soon-to-be ates and kuyas 🙂 I wish I had this before I gave birth to my second child. Nevertheless, I always make sure that I give the same equal treatment to both my kids 🙂
